Wolverines breed between May and August. Males and females may re mate several times with various individuals. Wolverines give birth only once every two years. Before finally implanting, the embryo is in diapause for six months. The actual gestation period takes 30-50 days. Wolverine dams give birth and nurse their pups in snow dens that they build themselves. The young appear during January through April. After the female gives birth to the litter, she hides with her young. The mother defends her territory and protects it from intruders. The young Wolverines are separated from their mother after 8-10 weeks. When they reach the age of 1 year, they are adults. They are sexually mature at the age of 2 or 3.
Life Span: In the wild, Wolverines usually live up to 8-10 years. In captivity, Wolverines are known to live up to 17 years of age.
