Wolverines - General Information

Wolverines are considered a nuisance throughout its range because they will eat animals already caught in fur traps and will break into cabins.

Wolverines are considered very difficult to trap. When a Wolverine finds a trap, it may spring it by turning it upside down or by dropping a stick into it.

Wolverines have extremely strong jaws. Their jaws are capable of crushing bones with their teeth.

The Wolverine can bring down caribou or deer. Wolverines have a very keen nose, and they can smell food under snow. Wolverines are notorious for stealing food while mink or fox get caught.

Wolverines - Importance for Humans

Wolverines have been hunted for their highly valued fur. As their fur is frost resistant, it was widely used by people living in the Arctic. Wolverines are sometimes suspected of killing livestock. Many Wolverines are shot because they prey upon animals that are trapped for fur.
