Wolverines - Food Habits
Wolverines are omnivorous. They feed on carrion, large and small mammals, eggs, fish, roots, fruit, plants, berries, and birds. Aggressive and strong, Wolverines can kill animals of a larger size than they are. They have a habit of storing the meat underground for later use. Wolverines are capable of driving an animal that is larger than they are from the animal that has been killed. Scavenging is the most common method of feeding that Wolverines use.
Wolverines - Evolution
The exact fossil history of Gulo gulo is not documented. As fossilization of forest-dwelling animals is uncommon, paleontologists have reconstructed much of Mustelidae history from the remains of teeth and some jaw fragments. Wolverines are descendents of the large Miocene and Pliocene Plesiogulo. The best fossil records for the Wolverine occur in North America and Europe. The records date from about a million years ago. Wolverines of mid-Pleistocene age have been found in cave deposits in Pennsylvania and Maryland. For many people, Wolverines are almost unknown animals. Hopefully, Wolverines will not be extinct before their major secrets have been revealed.
